Meet the Maker invites guests to connect with the artists behind the creativity and craftsmanship that inspire their work. For the October 21 edition, join us at ASTRA Kitchen + Lounge for an evening with Dallas based artist John Pomara, who will share his story, inspirations, and creative journey.
Born in Dallas in 1952, Pomara lives and works in Dallas and explores the human element of technology through abstract paintings that examine the conventions of painting and its relationship to the digital world. His work incorporates elements of control and intention alongside accidents and disruption, with spare, abstract paintings depicting blurs, glitches, and printing imperfections. Inspired by entropy and mechanical failure, Pomara uses copy machines, printers, and the Internet to create visual representations of error.
His work has been exhibited extensively, including at the Dallas Museum of Art, The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Dallas Contemporary, and the Meadows Museum, and has received critical reviews in publications including ARTFORUM, Art in America, Art News, and Flash Art.
